Home Front Recall
Project
The Home Front
Recall Project is a national initiative, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, as
a follow-on from the highly successful D-Day Anniversary celebrations. Its
purpose is to continue to ensure that the part played by civilians in the Second World War
is fully represented. ResCEW
(Research Centre
for Evacuee and War Child Studies)
and
ERA (Evacuees
Reunion Association) were represented during the events held in London in July 2005 to mark
the 60th Anniversary of the ending of the war.
As part of this
project, ResCEW within
the University of Reading, is undertaking work on behalf of ERA.
A key activity
is the development of a database, containing basic information concerning
evacuees and their evacuation, and we would be grateful for your assistance
in completing the attached copy, with as much information as you are able to
provide.
The work to be
undertaken from the database covers a very wide remit and I have listed the
principal activities below.
The ResCEW
collects, holds and processes personal data relating to evacuee and war child
studies. These activities are carried out in accordance with the Data Protection
Act 1998, and with the University of Reading’s Data Protection Policy and
Guidelines, observing the data protection principles.
Purpose of
information collection:
The information
we receive from you in this questionnaire will be included in a database, and
will complement the results of research already carried out in the Public Record
Offices around the United Kingdom.
This database
will be used for the following ResCEW principal activities:
a)
to provide a point of contact and create an opportunity to bring together
people who may not have seen each other for the past 60 years.
b)
to enable us to answer queries that we already receive on a daily basis
from ex-evacuees enquiring about individual schools, reception and evacuated
areas.
c)
to enable research in the field of evacuee and war child studies.
The data from your questionnaire will be used to produce anonymised statistical
reports.
Accessibility/Security
Only the
following of your information will be published to the General Public on the
ResCEW website:
-
Your name;
-
School names
in evacuation areas & reception areas;
-
Evacuated to
& from.
Information
concerning a third person, i.e. hosts’ names, teachers’ names or siblings’
names, and your contact details will not be accessible to the
General Public.
You will be
able to view your database entry in the near future by visiting the ResCEW
website.
If we receive
an enquiry regarding your web-database entry, we will usually forward this
enquiry to you. Under no circumstances will we pass on your personal
information, i.e. contact details to a third person.
We look
forward to receiving your completed questionnaire. Please make sure that you
give us your agreement for processing your information as described above by signing the
second page of the questionnaire.
Please
return the questionnaire to:
